Woolworths Food performed well in 2020, benefiting from retail anomalies such as stockpiling before lockdowns, but even off this higher than usual base, Woolworths Food managed to grow both market share and volumes during FY2021 (ending June 2021).  
The business has had to contend with tough trading conditions as well as aggressive competition in the upmarket shopper segment by both Checkers (with its FreshX stores) and Pick n Pay (with its Select stores).
Woolworths considers itself up to the challenge and will continue to respond tactically to any immediate challenges, whilst remaining steadfast on the execution of longer-term objectives.
